The monthly NYC PHP Meetup is getting rebooted in 2018! The first meetup will be hosted at Tumblr HQ in New York City, with Phil Sturgeon as headline speaker and two or three lightning talks.

About Phil Sturgeon

When he’s not talking about falling off bikes Phil Sturgeon is passionate about building great APIs. Sometimes scientists forget to label their units and they crash satellites into planets. Phil’s science teacher always told him to label his units and JSON Schema is how you do that in a HTTP API, even AMQP too! Come and learn about the future of APIs and other PHP topics.

We want you - for lightning talks

We are looking for 2-3 lightning (10-15 min) talks about anything PHP related. If you’re interested, please get in touch with Oli Griffiths via Meetup, or @oligriffiths on Twitter. This is a great way to get into the speaking community, and to test out material you might like to submit to conferences.

What to bring

A great attitude to all things PHP.

Laptops are not necessary but we will have wifi capabilities if you want to hack along.

Tumblr is generously providing pizza 🍕 and 🍺 beer/drinks.

Consisting of ferromagnetic nanoparticles suspended in a carrier fluid, ferrofluids are known for their bizarre behaviors in the presence of a magnetic field, like their tendency to form pointed peaks reminiscent of Bart Simpson’s hair. In a new Concept Zero video, photographer Linden Gledhill creates fascinating micro-landscapes using ferrofluids suspended in solvents. Driven by magnetic fields, the ferrofluids take on many shapes that change as the solvent and eventually the ferrofluid’s carrier fluid evaporate. Meet Team Vitamin!

Vitamins are the building blocks that keep our bodies running; they help build muscle and bone, capture energy, heal wounds and more. Today, TED-Ed wants to bring you your daily value and introduce you to the members of the team!

Vitamin A helps make white blood cells, shape bones, and improves vision.

The B Vitamins are a complex bunch - some of them make up co-enzymes, who help enzymes release energy from food. Others help the body to use that energy.

From Vitamin C, we get the ability to fight infection and make collagen, a kind of tissue that forms bones and teeth, and heals wounds.

Vitamin D gathers calcium and phosphorous so we can make bones.

Vitamin E works as an antioxidant, getting rid of elements in the body that can damage cells.

Finally, Vitamin K helps us make the proteins that clot blood.

Without this Vitamin Variety, humans face deficiencies that cause a range of problems. On the other hand, too much of any vitamin can cause toxicity in the body. In reality, it’s all about getting the balance right, and hitting that vitamin jackpot! Thanks, Team Vitamin!
